The original XModule application was created in the summer of 2005, to allow users a means by which XM Satellite Radio Online (XMRO) content could be enjoyed without the use of the then-clunky web-based interface provided on the XMRadio.com website. It was also the goal of the developer to provide an enhanced listening experience through use of the Windows-based application, by introducing various features and functionality (at the time) only available in physical XM-capable receiver devices, as well as innovative new ideas. Thus, XModule was made publicly available, and released to a very receptive audience, in a very tidy, yet capable interface.
But, as XMRO evolved, so too arose the need to revisit the XModule project to meet the changing face of the service. Resulting from this re-examination of the application is the newest version of the XModule application: XModule-SmartBar Edition (XModuleSB).
Boasting a smaller, more interactive user interface, XModuleSB inherits all of the functionality of its predecessor, with several powerful new features at its helm, delivering more *bang* for the XMRO listener's buck. Instead of shoving controls into the tight real estate of a single interface window, XModuleSB uses the "toolbar" approach, making its list of function windows available as child windows to the bar. This design allows the application to exist on the user's desktop without limiting overall desktop space, enabling the user to work clutter-free. Additionally, the design allows for low memory usage by the application, due to the removal of the necessity to repaint/redraw the interface on every change of song content/data.

The original XModule may have long since retired from service, but XModuleSB brings a new face to the reliability and functionality users have come to expect from a stable and robust application.
